In Memory

Woodrow "Woody" Williams

November 9, 1916 - March 11, 2008

Woodrow "Woody" "Pop" Williams, father of Woody Williams of the George Washington Chapter Model A Club of Northern Virginia, MD, and D.C., died peacefully in his sleep March 11, 2008.

Pop, as he was known in our club, was born November 9, 1916, and was a businessman in Marshall, VA, most of his life. Pop was a veteran of World War II, and was in the early reconnaissance landing forces in the Omaha Beach invasion of Normandy.

Pop has held a special place in our club from when he and son Woody first showed up in Woody’s new-bought 1929 roadster. Woody and his family are known to many of you as having organized a serious of wonderful tours of the Virginia countryside, based on their knowledge of the beauty and history of the area. These have been open to clubs from surrounding states, and participation has increased each year. (There will be one this year also!)

We will miss Pop and his constant good cheer and ready smile, and his presence will be with us on tours to come.

Milt Richards

Milton Richards died on Sunday, September 4th, 2005, at his home in Alexandria after a year-long battle with lung cancer.  Milt had been active in the club and especially enjoyed attending club meetings, our flea markets, and going on tours in his 1929 Town Sedan.  Milt recently made a very generous donation to the Model A Ford Youth Scholarship Fund, as noted in The Restorer (September - October 2005).  We will miss his sage observations and dry wit.  He knew the cars, and he knew a lot about life, and shared much with many of us.

Gordon Sanford

Gordon, USDA Forest Service, 1967

This is to let the club know that former member and long standing
subscriber, Gordon Sanford, has passed away.  Gordon was a member from
about 1965 until he left the DC area for Bakersfield, CA, in about 1980,
after his retirement.  He had a near mint 1928 Model A Sedan, "Miss Mary",
that he had bought from his 6th grade school teacher.  He passed away
March 31, 2004. He has a memorial website at
http://www.rainbeaux.net/memoryof/GordonSanford/ where there is a guest book
and information about his life and memorial service.

It was one of his wishes that his subscription to "The Ford Script" be
stopped upon his death. His subscription # was A00332

Thank You,

Mary Anne Sanford

Bobby Harrington

Past GWC Club President Bobby Harrington passed away in July, 2003.  Bobby, a retired Army Lt. Colonel,  had been fighting cancer for some time.  He looked forward so much to the Dearborn MARC national meet, and with great effort, attend it he did!  It was one last time to see his car friends and all the Model A's that had been such an important part of his life.  Bobby always appeared to be in good spirits at the meet, and to be enjoying everything more than most folks.

He was buried in Greenville, NC, on  July 30, 2003, with full military honors.  Donnie Temple took Bobby to his final resting place in his 1931 Model A pickup.  Bobby had said he wanted it that way, and he would have loved it.

Lloyd Davis

LLoyd Davis passed away on January 29, 2002.

Lloyd was a long time member of GWC and many other car clubs in the area.  He was very involved in the Antique Automobile Club of America, and was on the National board of Directors for several years.

He judged in  numerous AACA events, and was a leader in the fight to oppose the car crusher bills that  appear in congress from time to time.  Lloyd did much to preserve the history of antique automobiles, and leaves us an important legacy.
